The Opportunity:

Kanin Energy is seeking a highly motivated Business Development Analyst to support early-stage pipeline growth. This role will work directly with the Manager of Business Development to identify, generate, and qualify high-quality project opportunities with clients in target growth sectors. 
 
This is a strategic and analytical role focused on consistently generating and qualifying a high volume of high-quality leads. You will be responsible for producing analysis and sales materials for early-stage projects, managing the pipeline of active deals, and generally supporting the Manager of Business Development in increasing the volume of high-quality project opportunities. 

Success in this role is measured by your ability to bring a level of sophistication and creativity to complex B2B sales, develop strong analysis and deliverables, and move high-quality leads into the business development pipeline. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively manage and maintain Kanin Energy’s Customer Relationship Management tool (CRM) for board- and executive-level pipeline review 
  • Develop critical technoeconomic analysis and financial models for early-stage business development opportunities 
  • Develop high-quality sales materials and messaging to prospective clients in early-stage business development opportunities 
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with Kanin’s engineering team, power marketing team, finance team, and origination team to support analysis 
  • Scan the energy & industrial landscape for high impact events, conferences, and other engagements and prepare associated marketing materials [add functions to create event & conference planning] 
  • Support the BD Manager in identifying, prioritizing, & executing on specific high-impact business development campaigns 
  • Support the BD Manager in proactively engaging prospective clients across heavy industrial sectors, coordinating client meetings, and managing next steps  
  • Think through additional tools and strategies for the business development team to deploy to support project pipeline growth 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Organizational Psychology, or other relevant field of study 
  • 2+ years of experience in a business development or strategy role within the energy and/or industrial sector, or management consulting role 
  • Creative thinker who does well with ambiguity and can conceptualize the big picture while spending time in the details 
  • Very rapid learner 
  • Proven record of success 
  • Self-starter who will take ownership of their work 
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) 
  • Baseline understanding of industrial energy systems and power markets 
  • Preference for Calgary, AB based role 

Success in First 3 Months Looks Like:

  • Gain a deep, intimate understanding of Kanin’s product offering, the external market, and the highest priorities/objectives of our target clients; learn to articulate these things as well as anyone in the company 
  • Learn how to use Kanin’s sales tools and CRM system, take ownership of the CRM, and begin thinking about how to improve our suite of sales tools 
  • Learn Kanin’s development process and BD messaging, and build your first early-stage financial model and project proposal with support from BD Manager 
  • Create annual schedule of highest-ROI events and conferences for Kanin to attend and participate in
