CCUS Research Intern

Reporting to the Technical Analyst, the CCUS research intern will be responsible for conducting research and market analysis into existing and emergent carbon capture, sequestration, and storage technologies. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver impactful research on Carbon Capture to support Kanin’s decarbonization strategy, identifying opportunities to deploy new and existing technology in industrial settings
  • Research and analyze existing, new, and future technologies in Carbon Capture. This will include review of existing markets,deployments, proposals, specifications, academic literature and other data to evaluate feasibility, commercial-readiness, capital cost, operation requirements, and maintenance requirements 
  • Establish communication channels with technology providers and build meaningful relationships
  • Schedule and participate inmeetings with technology providers 
  • Prepare and present technical research outcomes and solutions to Kanin members
  • Participate in authoring external communications and reports
  • Create a report encompassing all findings and recommendations 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in related field
  • Experience in CCUS research or deployments preferred 
  • Strong analytic, problem solving and written/oral communication skills
  • Interest and passion in clean energy and sustainability
  • Entrepreneurial and self-starter attitude

Industrial Efficiency Research Intern

Reporting to the Technical Analyst, the Industrial Efficiency research intern will be responsible for conducting research and market analysis into existing and emergent industrial efficiency technologies. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver impactful research on industrial efficiency opportunities to support Kanin’s decarbonization strategy
  • Research industrial processes that generate waste heat or greenhouse gas emissions
  • Analyze current and emerging technical issues, and implement actions to proactively address market, business, regulatory, and/or economic issues 
  • Understand technical and operational aspects of researched technologies
  • Propose novel solutions to implement technology in different industrial processes 
  • Schedule and participate in meetings with technology providers 
  • Prepare and present technical research outcomes and solutions to Kanin members
  • Participate in authoring external communications and reports
  • Create a report encompassing all findings and recommendations

Senior Energy Markets Analyst

Kanin Energy is hiring a Senior Energy Markets Analyst to support the Commercial and Projects team. The position will report to the Chief Development Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and understand macro trends and nuances in utility and environmental markets across North America
  • Develop strong relationships with utilities & regulatory agencies
  • Identify power purchase agreement & RFP opportunities with corporates and utilities
  • Lead the interconnection application process for Kanin projects
  • Understand and model utility tariffs for project evaluations
  • Support the negotiations of corporate power purchase agreements and utility contracts
  • Understand and model environmental markets applicable to Kanin projects
  • Collaborate with the Business Development team to identify market opportunities

Ideal Candidate:

  • Undergraduate degree required
  • 5+ years of experience at a utility or clean energy developer
  • Direct experience with interconnection applications
  • Deep knowledge of energy markets and the utility industry in Canada and/or the United States
  • Understanding of environmental markets
  • Renewable energy experience preferred
