The Opportunity:

Kanin Energy is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the development and execution of industrial decarbonization and power generation projects across North America.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating with engineering partners, equipment suppliers, contractors, industrial host facilities, and internal stakeholders to advance projects from early development through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and commercial operation. This role requires strong project leadership, commercial judgment, technical fluency, and the ability to manage complex projects in a fast-moving entrepreneurial environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Development, Engineering & Execution: 
    • Lead execution of projects through scope definition, FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and transition to operations.
    • Develop and manage project execution plans, schedules, budgets, forecasts, risk registers, procurement strategies, and reporting processes.
    • Own overall project performance, ensuring work is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with commercial and technical objectives.
    • Lead project development activities including utility interconnection, permitting, grant applications, site coordination, constructability planning, and technical due diligence.
    • Oversee key project documentation, including project charters, cost estimates, cash flow forecasts, schedules, execution plans, RFP/RFQ packages, procurement documentation, construction deliverables, and commissioning and startup plans.
    • Review engineering deliverables, guide multidisciplinary design coordination, and ensure technical issues are identified, escalated, and resolved effectively.
    • Lead commercial evaluations, contracting activities, vendor selection, equipment procurement, and contractor management processes.
      Identify, manage, and proactively communicate project risks, technical challenges, commercial issues, and schedule impacts.
  • Stakeholder and Contractor Management:
    • Lead internal and external project meetings, ensuring decisions, action items, risks, and follow-up requirements are clearly documented and advanced.
    • Manage relationships with client partners, vendors, EPC contractors, engineering consultants, equipment suppliers, specialty service providers, grid operators, and other project stakeholders.
    • Coordinate and hold external engineering firms, contractors, and suppliers accountable for quality, cost, schedule, safety, and deliverable performance.
    • Prepare and deliver clear project updates, executive-level status reports, and decision materials for management, project partners, customers, and lenders or other external stakeholders as required

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation; PMP designation considered an asset.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in project management, project development, engineering, construction, or execution of power, industrial, oil and gas, infrastructure, or energy projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup phases.
  • Strong understanding of project controls, cost management, scheduling, contracting, procurement, risk management, and stakeholder communication.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage competing priorities, and make sound decisions in complex project environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear executive-level updates and decision materials.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project and partner sites throughout the United States and Canada.

Preffered Experience:

Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas will be viewed favorably: 

  • Waste heat-to-power, combined heat and power (CHP), distributed generation, or other industrial decarbonization projects.
  • Power generation, reciprocating engine gensets, gas compression, industrial facilities, or major energy infrastructure projects.
  • Utility interconnection, electrical infrastructure, permitting, and regulatory coordination.
  • EPC, design-build, major equipment procurement, construction management, or owner’s representative roles.
  • Industrial facility commissioning, startup, operations readiness, or handover to operations teams.
